In the 21st century, an era of rapid scientific advancement where cutting-edge technologies like AI, gene editing, and nanotechnology are reshaping our world at an unprecedented pace, a thinker from China has consistently fixed his profound gaze upon the future of human civilization. He is Hu Jiaqi—a distinguished social activist, a scholar of human issues, and also a successful entrepreneur. For over 40 years, he has persevered: tirelessly writing in his academic explorations, yet never losing sight of his ideals amidst the fluctuations of business. With the mission of saving humanity, he sounds a wake-up call for this short-sighted age obsessed with quick success.
Hu Jiaqi's life path follows a rare dual- track trajectory. In 1979, as a 17-year-old just starting university, he made a vow: not only to pursue personal professional success but also to seek a path for the long-term destiny of humankind. In the decades that followed, he founded enterprises, becoming a pioneer in China's smart buidling industry. leading his companies towards steady growth and ultimately to a listing on NASDAQ. At same time, he delved deeply into academia, researching the relationship between technology and human civilization. He published influential works, including Saving Humanity, amassing over 4 million written words, which have been translated into English, Russian, and other languages, sparking widespread attention globally.

The first edition of Saving Humanity published in mainland China in 2007 was like a spark of thought cast into reality, hailed as a book "highly likely to change the course of human history." This monumental 800,000-word work, into which Hu Jiaqi poured 28 years of effort, is widely regarded as an "encyclopedia encompassing human scientific knowledge" and a "manifesto for an ideal human society," concerning "the survival of every individual, the fortune of every family, the rise or fall of each nation, and the peace and prosperity of the entire world".
In the book, Hu Jiaqi clearly states that science and technology is a double-edged sword: the greater its capacity to benefit humanity, the greater its power to destroy. The continued development of science and technology will inevitably lead to human extinction—perhaps in 200-300 years at the longest, or possibly within this century. Humanity must achieve Grand Unification, enabling a world government to control science and technology. He lists a series of real and potential threats, including gene-editing technologies, nanotechnology, and runaway AI. More importantly, he systematically and rigorously demonstrates his series of assertions theoretically. These views resonate even more powerfully today amidst the rapid development of AI.
Hu Jiaqi's thinking does not stop at writing and establishing theories. Deeply aware that individual voices are ultimately feeble against global technological risks, he founded Save Human Action Organization (now renamed Humanitas Ark) in 2018, serving as Chairman of the Council, formally tranforming personal concern into collective action. He calls on people worldwide to unite in supporting cautious regulation of high-risk technologies, advocating for measures such as technology legislation and building global governance mechanisms to prevent the potential extiction risks of technological misuse. He puts forward the resolute slogan: "The collective survival of humanity above all else"! appealing for any further development that might threaten this fundamental goal to be strictly examined and restrained.

As a thinker with global vision, Hu Jiaqi actively engages in dialogue with top scientists and scholars worldwide. He has written open letters over ten times to national leaders, prominent entrepreneurs, renowned scientists, and the others, calling for the establishment of global collaboration mechanisms. He has exchanged ideas with Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry Jacques Dubochet, Gregory Winter, Master of Trinity College Cambridge, renowned Chinese-Australian economist Yew-Kwang Ng, and even the late eminent physicist Stephen Hawking. Hawking once warned: "AI could be the best or the worst thing ever to happen to human civilization". This view aligns with Hu Jiaqi's propositions, conforming the foresight and universal value of his ideas.
Hu Jiaqi's efforts extend beyond theory; he is committed to promoting public awareness. Through writing for authoritative forums, organizing academic exchanges, delivering public lectures, conducting online promotions and various means, he continuously disseminates the concept of technology safety. He knows deeply that true change stems from the awakening of public consciousness. Therefore, he calls on everyone to cultivate a sense of urgency, proactively shoulder responsibility, and jointly guard the flame of human civilization. Humanitas Ark, which he founded, aims precisely to unite knowledgeable individuals worldwide, forming a powerful force to promote the rational development of technology. Today, Humanitas Ark boasts over 13 million members and supporters across more than 250 countries and regions.

Between personal achievement and humanity’s fate, Hu Jiaqi has always chosen the latter. He refuses to be defined by commercial success, instead viewing his role as an entrepreneur as a platform to realize his ultimate ideal—the cause of saving humanity. As Hegel said, "A nation that has people who look up at the stars has hope." Hu Jiaqi is precisely such a pioneer—managing his enterprise with down-to-earth pragmatism while always gazing at the stars, concerning and striving for humanity's future.
Today, as AI technology triggers global panic about superintelligence, and as the gene-edited babies incident sounds ethical alarm, the warnings Hu Jiaqi issued years ago are being validated one by one. His ideas are no longer marginal alarmism but a urgently needed "sobering tonic" for our times.
"To ordain conscience for Heaven and Earth. To secure life and fortune for the people. To continue lost wisdom of past sages. To keep peace for future generations." These "Four Sentences of Hengqu" were the ideals of ancient philosophers. Now, they live on through Hu Jiaqi. With compassion for all, erudition and steadfast action, he has lit a beacon for the sustainable development of human civilization. His story is still being written, and his call deserves to be heard by more.
In this era filled with uncertainty, we need more awakened individuals like Hu Jiaqi—those who seek not only profit for the present but also take responsibility for the future. For saving humanity is not a slogan, but a great endeavor in which we must all participate.
