Recently, the 7th China-Laos-Vietnam (Puer) Border Commodity Fair was held in Jiangcheng city, South China’s Yunnan province.
The paper-cut named “Three Cow Spirits” from Gaomi, Weifang city, was displayed in the international exhibition hall, where the huge cow-themed painting by Souvisai of the Lao National Academy of Fine Arts was also displayed here at the same time. Gaomi paper-cut, a China national intangible cultural heritage, showed its international influence greatly.
There are a total of 7 paper-cut works with the theme of “Three Cow Spirits” in this exhibition. They are the works of Li Jinbo, an inheritor of Gaomi paper-cutting in Shandong province. These paintings, with simple tone, flexible objects, traditional Chinese charm and innovative techniques, were observed and praised by guests from Laos, Vietnam and all over the country.
Li Jinbo's live performance of paper-cutting skills attracted constant applause from the audiences. Paper-cutting enthusiasts eagerly gave it a try under the guidance of him.
This event promoted the spread of Gaomi’s traditional and excellent culture to South Asia, Southeast Asia and other countries around the world. It contributed to the comprehensive promotion of in-depth exchanges of art and culture between China, Laos and Vietnam.
In the future, I will further promote the excellent traditional Chinese culture and Gaomi paper-cutting art, and bring more local cultures to the world, said Li Jinbo on the spot.
