--Promoting Chinese New Year Culture

On December 21, 2023, the online cultural exchange event “Chinese New Year”, organized by the City of Dezhou, was successfully conducted as scheduled. The event, conducted virtually, provided students from the Russian “ECOTEH+” National School with an engaging and lively cultural lesson on Chinese New Year.

The teaching instructor introduced the Russian students to the origins of Chinese New Year and the unique Chinese Zodiac culture. He elaborated on the symbolism and significance of the twelve zodiac signs, sparking the students’ curiosity about Chinese cultural elements. Subsequently, the instructor showcased traditional Chinese bridal sedan chairs and New Year paintings, explaining the traditional customs observed during the Chinese Spring Festival.

These traditional customs, such as pasting couplets, setting off firecrackers, enjoying lantern displays, and performing dragon and lion dances, are unique elements of Chinese culture. For Russian students, these distinctive Chinese cultural elements are imbued with exotic charm, making everyone feel exceptionally intrigued.

Finally, the instructor emphasized the significance of the Chinese New Year’s Eve dinner to the students and taught them the Chinese pronunciation of commonly used words such as “Happy New Year” and “dumplings”. The students were enthusiastic and actively engaged in the learning process, creating a warm and harmonious atmosphere on the spot.

Amidst enthusiastic applause, the online cultural exchange event between China and Russia concluded successfully. The success of this event showcased the proactive role and influence of the City of Dezhou in promoting cultural exchanges between China and Russia. Through online communication, Dezhou introduced the unique cultural customs of the Chinese New Year (“Spring Festival”) to Russian students, establishing a bridge of friendship to facilitate cultural exchanges between China and Russia.
