In just a few years, Chinese companies have helped Vietnam build the Yongxin coal-fired power plant located in Binh Thuan Province, Vietnam.
As a project under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the Yongxin power plant received investment from China Southern Power Grid, China Power International Development Ltd and an electronic power company in Vietnam.
Last November, the first two units of the Yongxin phase-one project were put into production, generating 8.5 billion kilowatts of electricity for the local community over the previous year.
The Yongxin phase-one project has become one of the power plants with the largest generating capacity in Vietnam over the past year, guaranteeing electricity supply in southern Vietnam, said the deputy general director of Vietnam Electricity.
The project is the first power project that has seen Chinese companies invest in the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) mode in Vietnam, as well as the first one in Vietnam using supercritical furnace technologies. Compared with other facilities, the units could reduce carbon emission by 20,000 tons per year.
Chinese companies have not only helped boost electricity production in Vietnam, but have also actively fulfilled their social responsibility by donating student materials to local schools. Besides, the project hires many locals and cultivates managers and technicians from its local employees.
