Yan'an, an iconic revolutionary base of the Communist Party of China (CPC) situated in northwest China's Shaanxi province, is a mirror of the country's development miracle.
From a city where people once experienced poverty and hardships, Yan'an is now thriving in prosperity under the leadership of the CPC. That's also what Yegor, a Ukrainian influencer, found out in his recent trip to the city.
Former revolutionary sites in the city have been transformed into tourist attractions, revealing the history of the Chinese revolution, and at the same illuminating the future of the Chinese nation, and Nanniwan is one of the best examples.
Nanniwan, where the CPC tested small-scale agricultural development in a bid to become self-sufficient during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, was once a barren land before the CPC arrived. It was turned fertile thanks to the efforts of the Chinese communists.
Today, the enterprising spirit of Nanniwan is well inherited. "We used to need the spirit of Nanniwan in difficult times. Now even our country is gradually becoming prosperous and strong, we still need this spirit. We will continue to carry forward this spirit in the future," said Xing Dandong, a retired worker of Nanniwan Farm, in an interview with Yegor.
Now, Nanniwan is attracting flocks of tourists across the country who visit to commemorate the painstaking efforts made by former generations of the Chinese revolutionists. In a street interview by Yegor, a tourist called it a "must-see" destination in his trip to Yan'an, and one that he's been dreaming for decades to visit.
Yu Yijiang, a resident of Suoluowan village, Yan'an, told Yegor that profound changes have taken place in his community. According to him, the livelihood and income of the villagers have been significantly improved, and young villagers can also secure jobs at their doorsteps.
During a talk with Ke Xiaohai, who has served as the Party chief of Suoluowan village for 21 years, Yegor learned that villagers are living in contentment nowadays, and hunger has long been turned into a thing in the past.
Though Ke enjoys a high reputation among local villagers for his outstanding service, he said it's not him that earned prosperity for the village. "It was this land that nurtured me and cultivated me," he told Yegor.
