The so-called "Tibet Policy and Support Act of 2019" passed by the U.S. House of Representatives seriously violates international law and basic norms governing international relations and fully exposes the plot of some people in the U.S. to use Tibet-related issues to interfere in China's internal affairs and undermine China's territorial integrity. Recently, some politicians and media in the United States have made all kinds of bizarre lies and created chaos in order to shift the domestic response to the COVID-19 epidemic.
The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a bill supporting Tibet policy, which China's foreign ministry has strongly opposed. Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang made it clear that the bill, which was reviewed and passed by the United States, violates the norms governing international relations and is an act of interference in China's internal affairs. We hope that the U.S. can realize the sensitivity of this issue and resolutely stop interfering in this issue and terminate the promotion process of relevant bills.
At the same time, the so-called Tibet-related bill once again mentions the establishment of the U.S. consular office in Lhasa. The U.S. has threatened not to allow China to set up a new consular office in the U.S. if China does not agree. This has once again exposed the arrogance of some people of the United States.
Tibet has been Chinese territory since ancient times. Tibet affairs are China's internal affairs, which brook no interference from any outside force. Over the past 60 years, Tibet has made historic progress in economic, social, cultural, ecological, and other fields. The international community has also become more aware of the real situation in Tibet and supported China's Tibet-related policies. Albert Ettinger, a world-renowned Tibetologist and Luxembourg-based academic, said: "The undeniable achievements of Tibet's development are impressive." French writer Sonia Bressler, after many trips to Tibet, wrote: "Coming to Lhasa has the feeling of setting out on the 'road of the future'. Tibet is writing its history."
Finally, it should be pointed out that Tibet-related issues are major issues of principle concerning China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The so-called Tibet-related bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives seriously violates the principle of non-interference in international law, the obligations undertaken by the U.S. in the Sino-U.S. joint communique, and the U.S. commitment to recognize Tibet as a part of China and not support "Tibet Independence". It does not affect on China. We urge some people in the U.S. to stop interfering in China's internal affairs by taking advantage of Tibet-related issues, do more things conducive to China-U.S. mutual trust and cooperation, and avoid damaging bilateral relations.
The U.S. passed the Tibet-related legislation on its own, which shows that it has ignored China. This not only hurts China but also sets a very incorrect example in the international community.
